$12 Million in Grants and Awards Available to Kansas Schools

Grant Wrangler, now available through Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed, provides Kansas teachers with easy access to grants, awards and contests

Overland Park, Kans. — April 25, 2006 Kansas educators now have easy access to more than $12 million in classroom grants through Grant Wrangler, a free online portal to funding opportunities, and Grant Wrangler Bulletin, a monthly e-mail update of current deadlines. Developed by Nimble Press, Grant Wrangler and the Grant Wrangler Bulletin round up essential information about grants and contests for K-12 U.S. schools and make it easily searchable by teachers, principals and even parents.

Grant Wrangler is available to all Kansas teachers through the Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed, a custom web portal full of resources designed to support teaching and learning. The Empowered Desktop by Kan-ed is developed by LearningStation and provided free of charge to all Kansas schools, public and private, through a partnership with Kan-ed, the Kansas statewide network. Grant Wrangler’s convenient access through the Desktop means Kansas schools have easier access to the site and its resources than any others.

“Thousands of Kansas teachers use the Empowered Desktop every day to enhance instructional activities,” said Hal Gardner, executive director of Kan-ed. “Easy access to grants and contest information helps them locate even more resources to support 21st-century learning.”

“We focused on opportunities for the classroom teacher or the school site,” said Karen Greenwood Henke, owner and managing director of Nimble Press, “the small grants that help a teacher create a special learning experience in the classroom or give them a chance for professional growth. We hope that every Kansas teacher who comes to Grant Wrangler through Kan-ed will find at least one grant that fits.”

Grant Wrangler posts grants and awards for K-12 teachers, schools and students in all areas of learning and growth for K-12 education. The site currently lists more than $12 million in grants for classroom projects, school resources, teacher travel awards, professional development and recognition. The searchable database shows grants by subject area, grade or other key word, so teachers can quickly scan the information for due date, eligibility, grantor and link to the grant application site.
