DETAILS: The Intel® Model School Program is designed to provide a foundation so that students can become effective leaders in the future. As part of this program, a team of 12 education visionaries from across the U.S. identified two different technology path roadmaps for schools or school districts to follow when integrating technology into their K-12 schools. These tracks include a totally wireless path (all desktops and laptops are wireless) and an integrated path (will include a mix of both wired and wireless desktops and laptops). The Intel Model School Program has selected one high school for each path as a “model school.” Whitney High School, in Cerritos, California will provide the basis of the integrated technology track roadmap, and Miami Carol City Senior High School in Miami, Florida will serve as the totally wireless model. Roadmaps will be complete in the next six to eight months and will include information about how to get started, how to effectively spend budget dollars to move as far down the chosen technology path as possible, and which companies provide necessary services or products. Leading computer and education companies including Premio Computers, SAP, CCR Pyramid, LearnStar, McGraw-Hill, Riverdeep, Teacher Universe, Learning Station, Classroom Connect, Bigchalk, EdGate, Blackboard, Smart Technologies, Beyond Books, Net Schools, NCS Pearson, Infocus, and Kids 123 Education have joined Intel in making donations of products and services to make the Whitney High technology showcase effort a success.
