LearningStation to Offer Accredited Courseware from Florida Virtual School
Charlotte, N.C.— July 31, 2003 In an effort to extend learning opportunities for students, Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and LearningStation announced an agreement today that will enable LearningStation to resell access to FLVS’ nationally accredited courseware to schools and school districts across the country.
LearningStation delivers a wide variety of K-12 cross-curriculum content to schools and school districts in the United States. This agreement with FLVS strengthens the partnership between the two companies. For the past three years, LearningStation has been delivering supplemental curriculum materials to the FLVS program. This newly expanded relationship now enables LearningStation to offer complete FLVS courseware to their current and future customers.
“The addition of FLVS’ accredited courses to our library of content enables us to expand our offerings to meet the varying needs of our nationwide clients. Florida Virtual School is a leader in distance learning, and we are proud to be a part of their solid program,” stated Jim Kirchner, President, LearningStation.
With over 75 courses serving more than 10,000 student enrollments in 2002-2003, FLVS is a world leader in delivering high school education with 21st Century tools and is a nationally recognized e-Learning model. FLVS projects enrollment figures for 2003-2004 will climb to over 18,000 enrollments. The school provides students with access to courses not always offered to students at their local public schools, especially in rural schools where Advanced Placement (AP®) courses or electives such as Latin are not typically offered.
“At FLVS, we are committed to providing high-quality, educational opportunities to serve the needs of as many students as possible,” said Phyllis Lentz, Director of Global Services for FLVS. “We are delighted to be working with LearningStation - a company that is leading the way in providing innovative technology solutions to schools.”
Florida Virtual School
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is an established leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions. A nationally recognized e-Learning model, FLVS was initially funded by the Florida Legislature as a pilot project in 1997. At that time, FLVS began course development with limited student enrollment, pioneering Florida’s first Internet-based, public high schoolcomplete with online high school curriculum. In 2000, the Florida Legislature established FLVS in state law as an independent education entity with a gubernatorial appointed governing board. Today, FLVS serves the state of Florida and beyond, offering virtual education options for grades 7 through 12 as well as adults seeking GED alternatives.
