LearningStation Uses Convey’s Web-based Conferencing Utility To Fulfill Users’ Needs

OnDemand Empowers LearningStation to Take the Online Learning to the Next Level. Convey Systems, a developer of interactive Web-based technology, has announced that LearningStation, a leading Application Services Provider to the educational market, has implemented the OnDemand™ interactive Web-conferencing solution for internal use and will offer it as an enhancement to their services package.

Convey Systems provides video, voice, application share and collaboration, text chat and co-browse features that drive unprecedented effectiveness in online communications. LearningStation uses OnDemand’s application share, text chat and co-browse features at their support desk to help teachers, students and home users present curriculum and understand content through interactive guidance and sharing of Web sites. LearningStation’s usage areas vary widely with services provided to 35,000 ASP users in more than 150 educational organizations represented largely by K-12, but include continuing education, virtual colleges, universities, high schools and GED programs.

The Convey tool’s rich feature set scales to allow school systems to effectively use the lower bandwidth connectivity prevalent throughout the educational sector. “We are able to launch Citrix applications, which are similar to Windows applications, show related Web sites, and communicate using text chat, even if the student is using a dial-up from their home to get their high school diploma or pursue a GED,” said Kevin Graham, LearningStation’s Chief Technology Officer. Graham goes on to state, “It’s so much more than just talking on the phone. The combination of elements in the versatile package that Convey has designed, enables our help desk to get a virtual picture of what the users need so we can immediately fulfill those needs. And that’s what counts.” “LearningStation will soon implement the Convey technology at Cotswold Elementary School. Cotswold is LearningStation’s feature school for technology for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. LearningStation has instituted a Laptops for Learning program at Cotswold where they provided the school with a complete wireless solution. It seems only natural that Cotswold be the roll out school for the OnDemand support capabilities,” comments Graham. LearningStation and Convey have developed a relationship that will enable LearningStation to offer Convey’s technology in their ASP model.

LearningStation will enhance their ASP package to clients such as school district administrative offices who would like to troubleshoot their students and employees from the offices where the employees work. Those communicating with the administrators will obtain the VIP free from the school district’s Web site. For administrators using the OnDemand elements, training and curriculum analyses become effective, remote processes. Offering the Convey technology within their ASP package empowers LearningStation to take the interactive personalization of the online learning experience to the next level. LearningStation’s help desk and its educational ASP customers benefit from the powerful Convey solution package that includes the PRO (Personal Response Operator™) interface, which allows its user to guide the Web participant through interactive conferences. The companion to the PRO in the OnDemand solution is the VIP (Virtual Interactive Partner™), which enables personal interaction with the PRO from any pc location.

The two elements communicate via the Internet using Convey’s proprietary firewall and conference management server software, which can be housed by Convey or licensed by clients. “We went with the Convey product after looking at several other solutions because of the versatility of the technology and because of Convey’s willingness to work with us to create what we need. The solution was developed entirely by the Convey team. Since it’s not several compatible solutions tied together, OnDemand is seamless and easy-to-use,” states Kevin Graham, LearningStation. Mike Sibley, Chief Executive Officer for Convey Systems, said, “We are excited about LearningStation’s use of our technology in extending communications capabilities for ASP services. More people in remote situations can take advantage of educational experiences and complex training with less impact to work schedules. This improves the level of learning that can be accomplished online and enables administrators to keep a finger on the pulse of their schools.”
