Southern Westchester Cooperative Board and LearningStation Partner to Deliver Education Desktop
Lower Hudson Regional Information Center will host and deliver Web-based software and services to member districts
Charlotte, N.C. — October 24, 2005 LearningStation announces its partnership with Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). The BOCES will host LearningStation’s Education Desktop, a custom web desktop for teaching and learning, and accompanying applications, and will coordinate purchases of the software by member schools and school districts.
From its Lower Hudson Regional Information Center (LHRIC) in Elmsford, N.Y, Southern Westchester BOCES will host and deliver LearningStation’s Education Desktop platform for the delivery of education applications, including the Education Backpack application for online file storage and sharing, and netTrekker, a K-12 academic search engine by Thinkronize.
Additional software and services such as the P.E.T. Learning Styles Solution, a Web-based teaching and learning style assessment and management tool that aligns teachers’ teaching styles with students’ learning styles, can be added to districts’ Education Desktop deployment on a case-by-case basis.
“The Lower Hudson Regional Information Center is focused on supporting our member schools, and helping them implement sound technology solutions,” said Peter Reilly, LHRIC co-director. “Partnering with LearningStation to provide access to the Education Desktop and its contents helps us achieve this goal.”
LHRIC staff, supported by LearningStation’s customer support team, will provide implementation training and ongoing support to the schools.
“We are excited to support education within the state of New York through our new partnership,” said Jim Kirchner, CEO of LearningStation. “Our arrangement enables member schools to acquire our products cost-effectively and to receive services and support from a local, trusted organization.” The partnership is already showing signs of success: Pocantico Hills Central School District, an LHRIC member district, is currently deploying the Education Desktop.
