Sprint signs three year contract with LearningStation

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Nov. 14, 2002 - Ongoing improvements in communications technology have dramatically influenced traditional teaching and learning methods in the nation’s classrooms. Broadband connections are becoming more common and many schools are using the Internet as a tool to access educational software and curriculum for teaching and administrative applications.

Recognizing this dynamic, Sprint has signed a three-year agreement with LearningStation, the nation’s leading full-service Application Service Provider (ASP) serving the K-12 education market, to develop a distribution relationship and joint marketing and sales plans to offer the LSI Product and Sprint services to schools in the United States as part of Sprint’s Empowered Education™ initiative.

“Sprint is one of the leading communications companies in the world and is also a leader in the education market,” said Jim Kirchner, president of LearningStation. “The relationship between Sprint and LearningStation is a perfect fit for the delivery of our Education DesktopSM. The combination of Sprint’s networking services and LearningStation’s library of content enables us to create powerful education solutions for all schools systems, regardless of size.”

As part of the agreement with LearningStation, Sprint will pair its network expertise with LearningStation’s application service content to deliver high-quality educational content through a reliable network system. LearningStation, through personalized, online, Web-based Education Desktops, offers the most comprehensive suite of education content that can be used as learning resources for K-12 students. Sprint provides schools with leading-edge network capabilities and infrastructures.

“The beauty of their service is that schools no longer have to maintain software content on the desktop computer in the classroom since it’s all available through a Web portal managed by LearningStation,” said Mark Cosby, Sprint public sector manager. “This has the potential to reduce schools’ costs by cutting down on training and maintenance expenses. Additionally, with programs like E-Rate and No Child Left Behind, schools also have the ability to receive significant funds or credits for many of the services available through Empowered Education, which will help them produce results at minimal costs.”

As part of this initiative, Sprint provides school districts across the country with a variety of communications services, including Voice-over-IP, distance learning solutions and unique offerings like Sprint TekNet IPSM and ParentLink XPTM. Sprint TekNet IP allows teachers to easily schedule and control multimedia devices and bring audio and video conferencing capabilities into their classrooms. Sprint ParentLink XP is a communications system that provides parents and students easy access to grades, attendance reports and homework information over any touch-tone phone (including wireless phones) or the Internet.
