How can applications be added and/or deleted from a subscription? Is this function available using the administrative tool?

By default, students and teachers have access to a set of base content for their desktop. Currently, this base content cannot be edited. The applications that can be assigned and unassigned are located in the ‘Assigned Applications’ block in the center of the Desktop. Administrators can add and delete these applications for users using the Subscription Management tool. Newly assigned applications are immediately accessible to users, without the need for users to log off and then on again.

How will new versions of software be released?

As each vendor makes a new version of its software available, the software will be upgraded on the site. Each vendor releases updates at various times, and we will test and release each update as quickly as possible. With the exception of web products, we will maintain the older version for a limited period of time before removing it from the Desktop, assuming the vendor supports this effort.

Is it possible for students to view web sites that are not approved for use on the Desktop?

For the convenience of our users, our web site includes links to a number of web sites operated by other companies. Because some of these sites contain search engines or further links to web sites that contain search engines, it may be possible for users of our web site to access material that may be inappropriate for their viewing. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any such linked web sites. We recommend that you read and understand the privacy policies of each linked web site. If you are ever unclear about whether any particular application or content is being provided by a linked third party web site, please contact us.

What administrative tool is provided to schools to help them manage their subscriptions? What types of functions can it perform?

Schools can use the link on the Desktop called Subscription Management to manage their subscriptions. With this tool, a designated school administrator has the ability to add, edit, and delete students from the school’s subscription. In addition, the administrator can manage student access to subscription applications and view which students have access to particular applications. They can also use the tool to create profiles of applications, which can be associated with students.

What happens if I forget my password?

The school site administrator can reset a users password for you. If you need further assistance and are still are unable to log in because you have forgotten your password, call our Support Center toll free at 1-888-679-7058. Generally, email requests should be used for non-emergency situations and may be returned within 24 hours. Please be prepared to provide us with your name, User ID, school name, phone number, and email address. We use this information to verify your identity; we do not distribute this information to third parties. Because lost passwords cannot be looked-up, you will be assigned a new password. Passwords are case sensitive, so please check that you have entered capital letters where necessary.

What happens when a student logs into the wrong grade level?

Anytime a student logs into the wrong grade level, please note the User ID and then call the Support Center toll free at 1-888-679-7058. We will be happy to reset the ID for you. Additionally, we understand that in some cases it may be better to remove the grade level section. We have noted this issue for our technical development staff, and they will work toward including this function in a future version of our product.

What information do you collect from students and teachers who use the Desktop?

We never request any information from students or teachers using our web site. However, we employ technology that enables us to track the activity of each User ID accessing our site. This activity data allows us to understand how our site is being used and make decisions regarding site operation and future modifications. We share this activity data with our client schools and, in aggregate form, with prospective clients. This activity data enables us – and our client schools – to evaluate which applications are being used so that we may determine the most beneficial use of the web site.

What is an ASP?

An Application Service Provider (ASP) delivers and manages software titles from remote locations to multiple users via the Internet. All ASP services are online. Rather than purchasing software and installing it on individual computers, an ASP hosts and manages software titles on the Internet for a rental/subscription fee.

What is the purpose of the "SubscriptionID"?

Because each district has multiple schools, a Subscription ID (Sub ID) is needed to identify each school and associate it with its district. Sub IDs also ensure that students are added to the appropriate school within their district. At each school, an administrative User ID and password is assigned to a person, such as the superintendent, principal, IT director, or other key person assigned to the project. With the User ID, an Administrator can use the Subscription Management tool to manipulate students and software applications available on the Desktop at his or her school. Other people may be given “administrative” status at the Administrator’s discretion.

Why isn't the User ID/Password spreadsheet sorted by "teacher" and by "grade level"?

We understand the need to have the spreadsheet returned to you in a more convenient format. Our technical staff plans to include this functionality in our future product deployments.
